The challenge

3-to-4 sudden TSS events per year. Hours of warning. Millions in lost output.

One of the largest desalination plants in the Middle East was facing recurring unplanned shutdowns from sudden Total Suspended Solids events — typically three to four per year. Each event triggered emergency shutdown with only hours of advance notice. Too late to activate Dissolved Air Flotation systems. Too late to switch to alternative water sources.

Traditional monitoring relied on lab sampling three times per day. Useful for compliance, useless for prediction. The plant's operations team needed to know about TSS events days in advance, not hours after they hit the intake.
